Dear Friends,
The Belle Vernon Public Library has continued to grow in recent years, but, sometimes that’s not very obvious. About 25% of our circulation today is in ebooks and eAudio – people who use us from their home easily, conveniently, and invisibly online — where we’re always open.
Just a quick story to illustrate how important digital options have become to readers: a year or two ago, one of our patrons moved out of state. When she bought a new Kindle, she went to her nearest library. They told her they couldn’t help her with setting up the ebook loaning system, Libby, and referred her to online instructions. But she knew a library that could, and would, take the time. She called us long distance for the help she knew she could count on. And that’s what we have always been – a resource for the community since the 1930s.
Through the Westmoreland Library Network, thousands of ebooks are available. Other streaming options include Craftsy, the Great Courses, Indieflix, and new this year, Kanopy streaming video. If you’re not sure how those work, stop in or even give us a call – and it doesn’t need to be long-distance!
Yes, Belle Vernon Public Library has new options, but we still offer traditional library service. We loan thousands of items annually, be they books, DVDs, or audiobooks. We gladly get them in from our Westmoreland partners, and even from libraries in other states. Our Large Print collection has been growing in the recent past to meet a need. We still host children’s programs at the park each summer, and adults gather here with our Book Club each month. With Staples having closed, we saw the need to improve the quality of our copy options so we have copy, print and fax service still available locally with our upgraded printer.
Can we count on you to continue Belle Vernon Public Library’s mission to educate and entertain? We are a 501 (c)(3) and your donation may be deductible, but as always, check with your tax preparer. Your gift at whatever level will be very much appreciated.
Sincerely,
Your Friends at the Belle Vernon Public Library
